Nestling on the island's rugged east coast, the area of Cala d'Or is one of Majorca's prettiest where you'll have the pick of some great attractions and enjoy fantastic peace and quiet.

Gentle in mood than some of the other the more livelier beach resorts, the area is much-loved by British holidaymakers for its postcard-perfect sandy cove and atmospheric streets radiating out from the waterfront. Once a fishing village, the resort itself enjoys a charming setting. Wander round and you'll find inviting bars, restaurants and shops, as well as a harbourfront where you can sit and watch the bobbing boats from the friendly cafés. The resort exudes an air of sophistication and stylish living and is perfect for families. You will also find a host of friendly shops, bars and restaurants with open-air terraces.

When you're feeling lazy, there are rocky coves and sandy beaches to choose from, the biggest being Cala Gran - the largest on the island - whose fine white sands lap the shallow waters and offer exciting watersports. Away from the sea and sand, other attractions include horse-riding and tennis and after dark, relaxed but fun nightlife with a smattering of discos and inviting restaurants ideal for starlit suppers. For sightseeing, a tourist train will whisk you to neighbouring coves, such as Cala Egos and the wonderful Caves of Drach are also within easy reach.
