Far from bustling resorts, this enchanting area sets out its stone houses and cobbled streets against a breathtaking backdrop of Mediterranean vistas and lush, olive-cloaked slopes and dramatic mountains.

Lying inland, close to the shoreline, the area of Pollensa is like a pocket of old-time Majorca and is fabulous for couples and families wanting to savour peaceful, authentic Majorca. The Roman town of Pollensa offers a traditional experience. Made up of tangled streets, stone buildings and pastel-washed houses make way for ornate chapels. Wander around the narrow cobbled streets and discover the town's focal point - a picturesque central square. Here, you will discover a cluster of al-fresco restaurants - serving tasty tapas - and bars which are perfect for whiling away your time in between shopping for Majorca's traditional woodcarvings, leather goods and handicrafts. It's worth coming to the centre on Sundays, when a colourful country market takes over the square.

During your stay, make sure you climb Pollensa's 365 Calvari steps, the famous stone stairway to a quaint chapel. Towards the coast lies the restful area of La Font, where whitewashed villas pepper the meadows, and Puerto Pollensa, the village's original harbour now grown into a thriving resort complete with a beautiful sandy beach. Alternatively, visit Alcudia's Roman archeological sites or head into the countryside to enjoy the many walking trails and hidden villages tucked into the hills.
