There's something for everything at this charming old town in north-west Majorca. Sitting in a rural valley overlooked by the Tramontana Mountains, it was once a bustling textile centre, but now welcomes visitors with its leafy main plaza, steep streets and beautiful mansions. Take a seat at one of the buzzing cafes, wander around its Saint Bartomeu church and two interesting museums and stock up with goodies at its bustling markets.
For a memorable excursion, take the lovely old trams that run the three kilometres to Puerto de Soller, with its sandy beaches and restaurant-lined harbour. Or ride the scenic narrow-gauge railway to Palma to roam its gorgeous old town and marina. Nature lovers will also want to enjoy the nearby botanical gardens and stunning hills and coastline of this unspoilt region of Majorca.
