Menorca: Introduction

The Spanish-owned Menorca is the most eastern of the Balearic Islands, situated on the Mediterranean Sea. Often referred to as the ‘jewel of the Balearics’, Menorca has true beauty in abundance. Unlike its sister Balearics, Menorca is relatively peaceful. Flights to Menorca only take around two and a half hours, and with plenty of cheap flights available you can reach the sunshine in a short space of time!

Why choose Menorca?

Menorca is the perfect destination if you are looking for a sunny, relaxing holiday in which you can also admire some beautiful, ancient architecture. There is an abundance of beautiful wildlife that is typical of the Mediterranean which adds to the charm of the island. There is something for everyone to enjoy and its beaches are both plentiful and astounding. Menorca is a very family orientated destination, making it a great place to bring the little ones, while it can also provide the perfect romantic setting for couples. The weather reaches highs of 29 degrees C in the summer, making it the perfect destination for a relaxing summer holiday.

Our Top Tip For Menorca

"A visit to Cova D'en Xoroi is a must, a cafe and bar built into the cliffside at Cala En Porter close to Mahon. An amazing place for an afternoon drink, sunset watching and cool vibes at night too"
Marie, Cabin Crew flying from Leeds Bradford

Highlights of Menorca

Golden sands

Cala en Turqueta, which is approximately 2.5 miles from Sant Joan on the south west of Menorca, is well worth the visit purely just to take in the picturesque view of the crystal clear water and white sandy beach which is truly breathtaking. It is ideal for all ages and the sea caves which you can explore make for a fun day out. Son Bou, which is just south of Alaior, has the longest beach on the island of Menorca and offers facilities including sun beds as well as a fantastic range of watersports for all to enjoy.

Mahón

Mahon

Mahón has been the capital of Menorca since the 18th century and it should definitely be on your list of places to visit when going to the island. It’s harbour is the second deepest in the world and the port itself makes for a great place to go to relax during the night. Explore the town and its plethora of shops where you are more than likely going to find the perfect gift to take home to your friends and family or try one of the many markets in which you can find anything from leather goods to textiles and a variety of artistic crafts. The Museo de Menorca is the ideal place for those who are interested in the history of the island.

Old Towns

Ciutadella on the western coast of Menorca is a great place to head to if you fancy spending a day away from the beach. The old town, in particular, is well worth a visit as its cobbled, narrow lanes along with the 17th century Italian-styled buildings, are filled with history and culture.

Surrounding Area

Being an archipelago of four islands, there is so much to see in the surrounding areas and the islands of Ibiza, Majorca and Formentera are accessible via ferry or plane. Majorca is the largest island of the archipelago and is also known for its lively nightlife as well as its family friendly beaches. Formentera is the smaller of the islands and is also the most southern. While being only 17 kilometres away from Ibiza, it is definitely a lot more relaxed and is the perfect places to go for some tranquility.
