Canary Islands: Introduction

Located just off the north-west coast of Africa, the Canary Islands have been enchanting and inspiring visitors from across the world for centuries. Fantastic scenery, combined with phenomenal weather, makes the Islands the perfect place to take a holiday. Better still, there are plenty of cheap flights available.

The Canary Islands are diverse, with each island having its own unique climate and culture. Monarch has plenty of flights available to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Whatever it is that you’re looking for from your holidays this year, the Canary Islands will cater to your every need.

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is perfect for young people looking to travel affordably, and still enjoy themselves. The largest resort on the island, Playa de las Americas, is home to a long list of nightclubs, meaning you can party all night and relax on the beach all day.

Fuerteventura enjoys a massive 3000 hours of sunshine each year. The island’s climate is very similar to that of Florida and Mexico as they are all on the same latitude. A holiday here brings many of the same benefits – without the cost!

Gran Canaria is called a ‘miniature continent’ because of its different climates and variety of landscapes. Long beaches and dunes of white sand contrast with green ravines and picturesque villages. This provides the perfect variety of activities and local culture, so there is bound to be something for everyone to enjoy.

Lanzarote was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993 because it conserves one of the most exceptional ecosystems and volcanic landscapes in the Canary Islands.

Book tickets to Fuerteventura, Arrecife (Lanzarote), Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), or Tenerife South from Manchester or Birmingham. Flights to Arrecife and Las Palmas are also available from London Gatwick and London Luton.

Our Top Tip For The Canary Islands

"Make sure you try Papas Arrugadas, salted wrinkled potatoes, with Mojo Rojo sauce, a local Canarian dish."
