Lanzarote Cheap Flight Deals

Lanzarote: Introduction

Lanzarote is in the Canary Islands and is certainly one of the jewels in the archipelago's crown, being home to a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, as well as 12 natural protected areas, a national park and a marine reserve. Lanzarote’s unique terrain is one of its wonderful contrasts. Its soft, sandy beaches with their inviting waters give way to unusual rock formations and dramatic volcanic peaks, just begging to be explored. Flights to Lanzarote typically take around four hours from London.

Why choose Lanzarote?

Lanzarote

The most eastern of all the Canaries, Lanzarote is the closest island to Europe and it is home to some of the most bizarre, striking and downright beautiful scenery across the archipelago. Although you can reach the other islands with relative ease, the main reason to visit Lanzarote is to mix trekking with lazing on the beach. For the latter, look no further than Playa Blanca for a real beach holiday and then make your way inwards to the spectacular Timanfaya National Park. As well as its impeccable beaches and dramatic interior landscape, the island is full of other attractions, including the largest aquarium in the Canaries, a theme park, a water park and a nightlife that manages to be both trendy and lively in equal measure.

Our Top Tip For Lanzarote

"Take a trip to El Diablo restaurant where the food is cooked by the heat from Timanfaya volcano."

Lanzarote highlights

Touch down on Timanfaya National Park

So alien in appearance is the terrain in the Timanfaya National Park, you may feel as if you’ve just stepped onto some distant planet as opposed to an island in the Atlantic. Full of incredible hikes, the pick of the bunch has to be a trek to the sensational Fire Mountains. These martian-like landforms have remained unchanged for thousands of years and are a must-see for anyone visiting Lanzarote.

Other features of this park include the mean steaming boreholes, lava gorges and deep-cut craters. All based around the Islote de Hilario volcano, the park is a wonder of Mother Nature that’s sure to leave you speechless on more than one occasion.

Life’s a beach in Lanzarote

The coast of Lanzarote is lined with beaches of the highest quality. And with there being so many, you are sure to find the perfect patch of sand for you. Papagayo has the prestigious title of being the most beautiful beach on the whole island, and when you arrive you’ll see that’s no mean feat. Located in the lively Playa Blanca on the southern tip of Lanzarote, here you can bask in the sun with all the other holiday goers before sampling one of the many beachside cafes and bars.

Fancy a more bohemian beach affair? Head back up to the island’s surf mecca, Famara. Surrounded by craggy, pink cliffs, this bay is much more quiet and a world away from the resort beaches.

For somewhere in between, try Las Conchas on La Graciosa. Used by both tourists and locals, this beach is very chilled, but with bars and restaurants closeby at Caleta del Sabo.

Top resorts in Lanzarote

It's easy to organise a holiday in Lanzarote that will suit your tastes, as there is such a wide range of resorts to choose from. We've compiled a bit of information about a few of the most popular options to help you make your mind up about where to go once you've booked flights to Lanzarote.

• Costa Teguise - This part of Lanzarote is one of the best developed for tourists, with the coast here featuring beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants and bars, and fantastic hotels. The city of Teguise itself is fascinating and was once the capital of the island, making it a great place to explore if you want a day away from the beach. Among its top landmarks are the Palacio de los Spinola and the Convent of Santo Domingo. The journey from Lanzarote's Arrecife airport to Costa Teguise takes 20 minutes.

• Puerto del Carmen - Located on the east coast of the island, Puerto del Carmen is one of Lanzarote's most popular holiday resorts. The drive from the airport takes less than 15 minutes, so you can get your holiday started straight away. Playa Grande, the isle's largest beach, is next to the town, which is home to an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, clubs and shops.

• Playa Blanca - A little further from Arrecife is Playa Blanca, with the drive to this resort taking around 30 minutes. There are several beautiful beaches here - Playa Blanca (from which it takes its name), Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo are the main seaside spots, while the stunning Papagayo beach is just a short distance from the marina.

The gateway to the Canaries

Being the closest island to the UK, Lanzarote really is the gateway to the rest of the Canaries. All the islands are now interconnected via flights, ferries and speedily names fast-ferries and so island hopping is much easier than it used to be. Fuerteventura, with its rich sea life and clear waters is the closest island and can be easily accessed by ferry from Playa Blanca. While Gran Canaria, an island of sumptuous seafood and vast sand dunes, is one over again. The quieter, less-touristy islands of La Palma and El Hierro are the furthest away from Lanzarote and although getting there is not impossible, it could take up to three hours by boat and is unlikely to be cheap.
