Went to the Botanical Gardens, well worth a visit and also to the museum in Las Palmas but must say it was difficult to find. We also went up to Galder, a lovely little town in the mountains. Also visited Porto Morgan and went to the Irish restaurant and had John Dory - the best meal we had. The Don Quitox restaruant in the harbour area of Porto Rico is well worth a visit, it was fully booked every night we were there so it must be good! Always hire a car if possible as there are so many lovely towns in the mountains. Try not to be too scared of driving on the winding roads although the local buses seems to go anywhere you wish to visit. - Madeline Napper

I went on holiday to Gran Canaria with my family for three weeks at Christmas. We stayed in a resort called Puerto Rico and it was amazing.

We stayed at a private place called The Rosslara. The accommodation was not all that but we spent hardly anytime in out appartment. The night time entertainment at the Europa and Commercial centre were really good with a range of nightclubs, bars, restaurants and gift shops. During the day Amadores beach was perfect. Lounging about in the red hot sun on a beautiful man made beach was heaven! The cafes and restaurants which were scattered all around you on the promenade also helped! There was so much to do and it was so much fun. With all the different excursions and different places to visit you could never get board here This was a once in a lifetime holiday and I would recommend it to everyone. It has the quieter parts for the older people and the more up beat areas for the younger people. Children have so much fun because there is so much to do there. I would visit this place again as it is well worth the money. - Jade

Puerto del Carmen - great for couples of any age - loads of good restaurants - Italian, Indian, Chinese you name it - loud enough for a load of beers if you want that scene - quiet enough to relax if you don't.

Friendly people great apartments - try the Atalayas !!! Betting in a few bars if you want to - loads of English / Irish pubs and lots of Spanish ones too - a great mix !! Party on or relax depending on what you want - its all there !! Better for couples and families rather than loads of all male or female parties - which suits us!! we are destined for our 6th holiday there in 3 years - cant beat it !!! - Tina Barton

We are regulars to Lanzarote in particular Playa Blanca. It has something for everyone - a beautiful sandy beach in the main town with clear blue water or you can trek by car, boat or foot to the natural beauty of the Papagayo beaches.

We love to sit at a cafe or restaurant in the new Rubicon Marina and take in the view or watch the fish swim underneath us! This area has a good selection of shops and plenty of activities for the kids! Playa Blanca in my opinion is the best resort on the Island, you have fantastic views of the volcanos as well as the costline of Fuerteventura (which is only a 17min crossing by ferry). It is an excellent resort for relaxation as well as being lively enough to keep the kids amused! A very safe resort and very family orientated. We are regular visitors and I could go on and on about places to go and retaurants to try but why not see for yourself and book a holiday to Playa Blanca. Stay at a luxury 5* hotel or a private villa or self catering apartment - the choice is endless! - Karen Boxall

We found a lovely little bar restaraunt called Victoria´s in Bora Bora Playa de las Americas. It´s right opposite the beach so we´d go and watch the sunset from there.

We have a fussy 8 year old daughter so needed a place to go in the evenings where she would be entertained. It is a family bar so our daughter was welcome until late and the staff bent over backwards to entertain her with colouring disco dancing etc. They even had an internet cafe on the side with plenty of games to keep her happy. The staff were really friendly and helpful and even sat and had a drink with us on a couple of nights! The restaurant had a choice of kiddies meals with free drink and icecream which cost about 3 euros which we thought was excellent value for money. The main meals and starters were also reasonably priced and the steaks were to die for! We ate British Mexican Italian Indian and even a Jamaican lamb curry which was delicious. We went for dinner almost every night of our stay in Tenerife and would highly recommend this bar. We will certainly be going back on our next visit!

Eating out is a way of life here and so there are superb international restaurants down to local “tascas” (pubs) which have a more limited menu of equally good and cheap food.

I have lived in Tenerife for almost 20 years. It is truly an island for all tastes with first rate holiday resorts with clubs bars and entertainment but for those who like a quieter holiday there are unspoiled areas and excellent scenery including the highest mountain in Spanish territory (over 12000 feet) which is also a volcano. For the self-caterers there are hypermarkets catering for all tastes and hotels at all prices. But of course the all-important thing I the weather which is warm all the year round – in fact the island has been called the land of eternal spring – not too hot in summer and not cold in the winter. Tenerife is the ideal place for a holiday.

I have been going to Tenerife every year for years. The must dos for new visitors has to be a day around the island.

Most of the guides on the coaches are excellent and have a vast knowledge to impart. Probably the best island tour takes you inland from Playa de Las Americas visits Vilaflor the Las Canades National Park a 7000 foot plateau out of which rises Mount Teide at 12150 feet. Choose the tour that then continues down to Puerto De La Cruz in the north where you can stop for a three hour lunch and sight-seeing or have a pleasant visit to the Loro (Parrot) Park. Do not miss the dolphins (as good as anything they do at Sea World in Florida. Afterwards tour the north of the island and return towards the south via the east coast motorway. Again you want the tour which stops off in Candelaria to see the bronze statues of the early kings of Tenerife and visits the Church of the Black Madonna. Make sure you dont walk past the little cake shop on the way. The pastries are heavenly. An excellent day tour.

For those who would like to go to the peak of Mount Teide (wrap up warm it can be quite cold at 12000 feet even in summer) but the views are spectacular on a clear day. I would advise not to go on a coach trip because they dont give you a lot of time at the summit (which is reached by cable car) and all the coaches seem to arrive at a similar time and the crowds are horrendous. The best option is to hire a taxi for the day and with a little bit of negotiation 3 or 4 people can have a day out in comfort and convenience for little more than the cost of the tour prices.

Another Must Do is the day trip to La Gomera (take the complete tour including the around the island coach trip). La Gomera is the nearest island to Tenerife but the flora and fauna in the Garonjay National Park are so different from Tenerife. The scenery is equally spectacular.

Back on Tenerife the coastal walk between the harbour at Los Christianos passing through Playa De Las Americas and on to Puerto Colon and ending at the new Torviscas beach is a very pleasant experience especially if you pace yourself with stops for drinks and lunch. Along this stretch of coastline many glorious beaches have been made using imported sand from Africa and complemented by some original architecture. I could go on for hours I must write that travel guide. Eating out drinking and even smoking for those who still do (200 for £10) are probably the cheapest in Western Europe.

There are some very good hotels all over Tenerife but the one I keep going back to is the four star Hotel Bitacora (not in the brochures book online). Cleanliness service and attention to detail by all members of staff are exemplary. The food is fantastic too. Book a room with a pool view on one of the higher floors a little extra but you get free safe free use of bathrobes and slippers and fresh pool towels free of charge everyday. Go on give it a try!

As a regular traveller to this destination I am always amazed that many people consider it a bingo and chips destination.

My husband and I have been going to Tenerife three times a year for the last ten years and we find something new every time.

Good old Tenerife! Still the best winter and summer sun destination. Lots to see and dowith all budgets catered for from lager and chips to cocktails and canapes. Must dos include Loro Parque(and I cant wait for the new attraction in the south of the island from the same stable.) Mt Teide is spectacular. I love to drive up through the pine forest especially in January when the snow is crisp and fresh. Ive even seen locals skiing! There is a long flat promenade from Los Cristianos to Playa de las Americas which is enjoyed by toddlers joggers fast walkersslow walkers(ideal for the new Nordic Walking craze)wheelchair userseven my parents both well into their 80s take a stroll every day. Shopping is great with quality jewellery and famous name clothes. When the sun goes down try a cocktail in Harrys bar and watch the fountains dance to music opposite the Piramide in Las Americas.

Or eat in the Piramide restaurant and see the fabulous dance show for a special night out. Its what Im planning to do for my 50th birthday at the end of the year.

We usually fly Monarch to stay in our friends Finca (farmhouse)in the hills near Icodwhen visiting Tenerife South rent a car and try the north west side of the island.

Peurto De La Cruz to Garachico.

We find the shops and supermarkets on this side of the island to be cheaper than the South. if you like shopping visit El Campo a large shopping centre on the Motorway just outside Puerto De La Cruz with free undercover parking. It also houses a Cinema that shows english language films on certain days.

Further along the coast road between Puerto De la Cruz (Loro park) and Icod are some spectacular small beaches (not visible from the Motorway) such as Sicorro a haven for surfers. The friendly beachside restauraunt (which the locals use)serves excellent seafood at a low price and the beach and surrounding area are kept immaculately clean (as with most of the area).

Further on along the coast passing the town of Icod (Home of the famous El Drago tree)Is the historic town of Garachico. Once the capital of Tenerife the town was almost obliterated by the last great volcanic eruption. The original fort still stands and the town has some good cheap restaurants.

The seafront restaurant is in a very nice positionespecially early evening when the sun is going down although we found the food a little bit under par for the price. We found the backstreet restaurants to be better as with most places its usually better to observe where the locals go!

The remnants of the falling volcanic lava have left rock pools in Garachico harbour which have been modified to allow bathing for the less adventurous there is an outdoor municipal pool a few hundred yards away.

These are just a few of the many attractions on this side of the island there are lots more hidden gems to discover in this area well worth exploring.

I have made many visits to an excellent bar/restaurant located in the Vista Sur area of Playa de las Americas Tenerife.

The name of the bar is called Mary Rogans. The owner and resident singer is Michael Graham. He has an absolutely outstanding voice and the good news is that he performs five nights a week from about 22.30. What makes this act different to others is that Michael takes the time out to personally meet and greet his guests prior to him taking the stage. He commands his stage like no other singer I have seen on Tenerife. Furthermore he interacts with his audience to make them feel part of the overall show.

You certainly dont have to wait long for a drink as his friendly staff ensure you are well catered for. The bar is spotless and the experience is so good youll need to get there well before the show starts at 10.30 to get a seat.

A trip to Mary Rogans is truly worth your time. If you do go rest assured a return trip will quickly follow. The bar is about 3 minutes away from the Mare Nostrum hotel complex walking towards Los Cristanos.

Right down to the Burger King at the corner of the harbour area. Whatever your taste is Indian, Chinese, Italian some of the finest seafood the largest T bone steak I have ever seen can be had amongst the restaurants in the harbour area. Tenerife's best kept secret? Got to be the Los Gigantes area!

Spectacular scenery and great restaurants - brilliant for couples and familys... go on, book it! A tip for accommodation - book an apartment at Balcon de Los Gigantes - high quality, lovely pools and walking distance to bars, beaches etc...35 mins from the airport! - Deborah Clancy

Best food on the Island is Restaurante Romero in Chirche

, not far from Aripe and Guia de Isora on the road to del Teide. They serve traditional Canarian food and plenty of it. You need good wheels to get you there as the road is very steep but well worth the effort and it's a lovely village too. - Jane Woodhouse

We visited Los Gigantes hotel on 23 Jan 2008 and have booked again for late April.

We have returned to this hotel 5 times in 18 months and this is not usual for us as we like to change. The last few years we have had a Thomson cruise holiday plus 2 or 3 other holidays but have found the cruise holidays are not so good anymore but the gold holidays are better. The only thing they need to change at Los Gigantes is the entertainment. - Lesley Bell

We always fly into the South ..with Monarch and have usually stayed in this area but this year we flew into the South and then travelled to the North and it was the best change we have ever made.

Puerto de la Cruz is wonderful has lots of good shopping and places to eat. A really nice promanade with Lido area that has to be seen. We stayed in the La Chiripa Garden hotel and it was really nice with extensive gardens to walk in. People told us not to go to the North because the weather was not so good as in the South but we found the temperatures to be much the same although we did see some cloud it was still pleasantly warm. We will be back to the North again later in the year ...pity Monarch do not fly into the North airport. - Fred Hussey

We have been wintering in Tenerife for the last few years and are in our 60s. The island is marvellous for the older person during the winter.

We are on the west side - Playa de la Arena just outside Los Gigantes. It is quieter than Las Americas and with more hills to cope with. There are some lovely restaurants and tennis and bowling (lawn on a mat) are all popular as is walking in the hills. There is a good bus service for those who do not rent a car and temperatures that very rarely drop under 18c during Jan and Feb. The more hardy of us can swim all year round in the sea but heated pools are available - including a wonderful indoor pool at the public sports centre. - Susan Hide

I spend at least 10 days per month in Tenerife in my villa overlooking the Adeje Golf club.

My boat is moored at the marina in Puorto Colon and we eat out at La Calletathe old town of Adejeup in the mountains at Vila flor or we venture along the coast to Los Abrigos to the local fishing restaurants. The weather is always changing some hot days some overcast but still hot. There is very little rain but when it does rain it comes and goes very quickly unless you get a storm which stays over the island for a week. Even then you can tour the island which is a must. There is so much to see and do with great shops at Santa Cruz and good for a day out looking at the old city. There are plenty of things for children especially the Loro Park up north at puorta de la cruz and down south a new park called Siam Park is opening in May 2008. - Peter Milton

Tenerife South appealed to us that much that we retired here permanently from the UK.

If you want a peaceful holiday consider Medanolos Abrigos and the Golf del Sur. For a lively holiday the resorts of Torviscus and Playa de las Americas await. Take a trip up Teide, the dormant volcano and look at the landscape. It has been used for numerous sci-fi film sets. Go North on a trip to Loro Parque, well worth the visit but go to the main attractions first before visiting the rest or you will miss some fantastic sights. Come to South Tenerife - we did and stayed!!! - Dennis Humm

Flying from manchester T1 to Tenerife South is simiplicity itself. Having travelled a number of times with Monarch the 3 1/2 hour trip passes quickly. We stay at a friends apartment in Tor Viscus about 20 mins from the airport.

Flying from manchester T1 to Tenerife South is simiplicity itself. having travelled a number of times with Monarch the 3 1/2 hour trip passes quickly. We stay at a friends apartment in Tor Viscus about 20 mins from the airport. La caleta provides a wealth of cafes bars and seafood restaurants and a trip to the go-cart track is a must. Travelling from Tor Viscus in the plentiful local taxis costs around 20€. If you want tacky, tourist tenerife does it in style. If you want quality and smiles it does that too - just take the time to explore! - Nick Kealey

I spend a great deal of the mainly Winter months in Tenerife. I love to visit Central Park in Las Americas where they have line dancing each evening bar Sundays - Steve Towers is the entertainer. He plays requests, is exceedingly friendly and makes everyones evening enjoyable whether a dancer or not. I personally recommend a visit. The food is quite good too and prices are reasonable. - Janet Boulton

We have been going to Tenerife for the last 10 years. We always go to the South of Tenerife. We have been staying in Costa Adeje which is more quiet and relaxing but also have some fantastic beaches restaurants and bars.

We stay in the chain of Riu Hotels (which I recommend). We are going back there this October 08 and looking forward to going to Siam Park. - Marion

Flew out with Monarch From London Luton on 6th Sept and had a fantastic service throughout checking in and landing. It was the first time my son (18mths old) had flown and I was nervous about how i would entertain him but your staff on the flight were very welcoming and it was a pleasure to travel.

It was the first time my son (18mths old) had flown and I was nervous about how I would entertain him but your staff on the flight were very welcoming and it was a pleasure to travel. On our return flight (14th Sept) the turmoil of XL airlines was evident at the airport and our flight was nearly full apart from a few spare seats. One of these being free next to us so our return flight was even more comfortable! Would recommend monarch all the way! - Mark Goldsmith

I spent xmas last year in Playa Amercias it was great, the fountain in the main square which colours and water spouts to music in the evening is spectacular.

The beaches are clean and well maintained, the breakfast and evening meals here are cheap and very good . There is a phamacy near the beach too where they speak english. You'll love all the shops here too or just relax along the endless shores. - Mr Morowski
