Tenerife: Introduction
Known as the 'Land of the Eternal Spring', Tenerife's guaranteed sunshine and balmy climate mean that it's always in demand as an exciting holiday destination. The most popular Canary Island has buzzing resorts, non-stop entertainment and blissful, vast beaches. Add the soaring volcano peak of Mount Teide, quaint harbour fronts, mountain-top villages, camel safaris and dolphin-watching cruises, and Tenerife holidays really do offer something for everyone.
Sun-worshippers will be delighted by the mixture of long golden sand and attractive dark volcanic beaches. Playa de las Americas features the stunning and golden Playa las Vista, whilst Los Gigantes boasts the blue flag, dark sand beach of Playa Arena. For a break from sunbathing, many beaches also offer a wide array of watersports, including jet skiing, water skiing and scuba diving.
Las Americas is Tenerife's most lively and vibrant holiday resort, popular both with party animals and night-owls. With excellent shopping spots to enjoy during the day, the town comes alive at night with bustling restaurants, bars and nightclubs catering to every taste.
Los Cristianos is also a great option for a Tenerife package holiday, following first-class refurbishment in 2007. The former tiny fishing village has now grown into a charming town centre, with a great selection of accommodation, nightlife and two main beaches that are excellent for swimming. There are a number of sailing excursions leaving the busy port daily, including whale and dolphin-watching trips. To keep the kids entertained why not try the Siam Water Park, well worth a visit.
Visitors looking for a more relaxed trip to Tenerife will be captivated by the stunning and mainly residential area of Callao Salvae. Stroll along the picturesque promenade to enjoy the breath-taking sea views, or soak up the sun on the quiet beach.
Golf is popular on the island and there are many cheap package holidays to Tenerife that include golf passes and equipment. With courses and clubs dotted around the landscape, Golf del Sur to the south is home to one of the island's most prestigious courses. With well-maintained natural and man-made beaches, the surrounding area is also a great option for a quiet holiday to Tenerife, with various walking trails, welcoming bars, restaurants and shops.
For a sun-soaked city break, look no further than Tenerife's cosmopolitan capital Santa Cruz. Located between the soaring Agnana mountains and the world's deepest harbour, Santa Cruz offers café-lined streets, bustling shopping markets, museums and the famous Church Tower of Place de la Iglesia. Just outside the town centre is Las Teresitas, a gorgeous man-made white and beach with warm and sparkling waters.
Nature lovers and those on family holidays will appreciate the Teide National Park, which features unique flora, lizards, rabbits, kestrels and vultures, and is crowned by Spain's highest mountain and volcano, Mount Teide. Ride the cable car to experience the amazing vistas over the moon-like landscape, or climb to the summit to be spellbound by the spectacular panoramic view of Tenerife and the volcano's spectacular crater.

Eating out is a way of life here and so there are superb international restaurants down to local “tascas” (pubs) which have a more limited menu of equally good and cheap food.I have lived in Tenerife for almost 20 years. It is truly an island for all tastes with first rate holiday resorts with clubs bars and entertainment but for those who like a quieter holiday there are unspoiled areas and excellent scenery including the highest mountain in Spanish territory (over 12000 feet) which is also a volcano. Eating out is a way of life here and so there are superb international restaurants down to local “tascas” (pubs) which have a more limited menu of equally good and cheap food. For the self-caterers there are hypermarkets catering for all tastes and hotels at all prices. But of course the all-important thing I the weather which is warm all the year round – in fact the island has been called the land of eternal spring – not too hot in summer and not cold in the winter. Tenerife is the ideal place for a holiday.
