Little more than a beach and a group of hotels, this relaxed development is set in splendid countryside around a sweeping bay. It was here that Columbus established his first settlement and the pirate Cofresi buried his treasure (still unfound). The attractive town of Puerto Plata is nine kilometres along the coast to the east.
