Head to the summit of Srd hill
Dubrovnik is a spectacular city from any angle, but nothing quite compares to looking down on it from above. While there is a road that winds its way up to the top of Srd Hill, by far the most exciting way to get to the top is by cable car.
Walk around the city walls
There are few better ways to begin your trip to the city than by taking a walk along its historic walls, which are roughly 2 km long and enclose the old city completely. It’s is a great way to get your bearings and pick out things you'd like to take a closer look at.
Visit the museums in bulk
Considering the small size of the old city, it's home to an impressive number of museums - though you'll find some are scattered just outside the city walls too. Some of them are housed in some of Dubrovnik's most atmospheric buildings, which are attractions in themselves, doubling your reasons to visit!
Walk the down Stradun
Visiting Dubrovnik and not walking down Stradun is all but impossible. The city's main thoroughfare, this street runs between Pile Gate and Luza Square, and is packed with tempting ice cream parlours, souvenir shops, charming cafes and historical buildings.
The surrounding area
If you don't fancy spending your entire holiday in the city, you can head to one of Croatia's stunning Adriatic resorts that are within easy reach of Dubrovnik.
Mljet is the largest island in the Dubrovnik archipelago and part of a national park. The main port here is Sobra and there are some outstanding beaches located around the isle's coast.
Korcula is the perfect place for a tranquil getaway. Boasting secluded coves, olive groves, vineyards and natural harbours, it's ideal if you want to combine a seaside escape with a spot of traditional Croatian culture.
This is one of the peaceful harbour towns on the mainland, which boasts a picturesque sandy bay. The area around the village is agricultural, with olives, fruit, tobacco, herbs and grapes among the produce grown here. It's the perfect tranquil retreat if you want to get away from it all and avoid hordes of other tourists.
