Dalmatian Coast (Dubrovnik): Introduction
Dubrovnik is one of Croatia's most beautiful and historical cities, which has the added bonus of being located on the spectacular Dalmatian coast. Whether you're booking flights to Dubrovnik for a long weekend or are planning to spend a week or two discovering the city and surrounding area, there is plenty to keep you occupied.
As the flight to Dubrovnik from London typically takes around three hours, it's perfectly viable to travel to Croatia for just a few days if you don't have longer to spare. Monarch also offers flights from Manchester and Birmingham airports, so it shouldn't be difficult to find a flight that suits you.
Why book flights to Dubrovnik?
Dubrovnik is known as the Pearl of the Adriatic and with good reason. This wonderful city is home to stunning architecture and many outstanding landmarks, not least of all the impressive city walls that encircle the Old City. These ramparts have protected Dubrovnik for centuries and the views from the top are breathtaking.
Other landmarks of note in the city include the Rectors Palace, the Sponza Palace, St Johns Fort, the large Onfrios fountain and the main street Placa, which is lined by Baroque buildings and is truly beautiful in its simplicity.
There is more to Dubrovnik than its fascinating history, though, with the city located next to some truly stunning beaches and within easy reach of some of Croatia's most picturesque islands and coastal resorts. Banje Beach is one of the closest to the city - a sandy-pebbly stretch that usually has calm waters.
Another popular option is Lapad Bay, while the island of Lokrum is just a ten-minute boat ride from the city making it a good choice for a day trip.
