For the safety of all our passengers, Monarch restricts certain articles from passengers' hand baggage and hold baggage, as well as strictly prohibiting certain items for carriage onboard the aircraft.
The following items are strictly prohibited from either hand or hold baggage
- flammable materials e.g. lighter/heater fuels, petrol, paint, thinners, non-safety matches and fire lighters
- oxidising materials such as lighter or heater fuels
- oxidising materials such as bleaches and peroxides
- poisons such as arsenic, weed killers and insecticides
- corrosives, alkalis and wet cell batteries i.e. filled car batteries
- etiologic agents (bacteria, viruses etc.)
- radio-active materials
- firearms
- explosives, fireworks, flares, toy gun caps, party poppers
- compressed gases (flammable, non-flammable and poisonous) e.g. butane, and including culinary blowtorches, butane powered travel irons, camping or compressed gas cylinders, tear gas, mace or CS gas devices, butane powered gas curlers (prohibited unless a safety cover is supplied and is firmly in place) - separate re-fills are not allowed
- oxygen and chemical oxygen generators.
- magnetised materials
- offensive and irritating materials
- apparatus containing mercury may only be carried as cargo
- cooking oil
Guns, firearms and weapons
Any object capable of being a weapon, discharging a projectile or causing injury is prohibited and cannot be taken either in your hand or hold baggage. In some cases, some of the items on the list may be carried in your hold baggage. You will need to make special arrangements with us for this to be possible. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Chemical and toxic substances
Chemicals that pose a risk to the health of passengers and crew are prohibited and cannot be carried in either hand or hold baggage. Including but not limited to:
- oxidisers and organic peroxides, including bleach and car body repair kits
- acids and alkalis such as spillable 'wet' batteries
- corrosives or bleaching substances inclusing mercury and chlorine
- vehicle batteries and vehicle fuel systems
- disabling or incapacitating sprays including mace, pepper spray and tear gas
- radioactive material, including medicinal or commercial isotopes
- poisons and toxic substances including rat poison
- infectious substances or biological hazardous material such as infected blood, bacteria and viruses
- material capable of spontanious ignition or combustion
- fire extinguishers
The following items cannot be carried in your hand baggage
Including but not limited to:
- corkscrews
- darts
- scissors with blades more than 3cm
- hypodermic syringes - unless required for medical reasons
- knives
- metal cutlery - except teaspoons
Pointed edged weapons and sharp objects
Including but not limited to:
- axes and hatchets
- arrows and darts
- crampons
- harpoons and spears
- ice axes and ice picks
- ice skates
- lockable or flick knives with blades of any length
- meat cleavers
- machetes
- open razors and blades - excluding safety or disposable razors with blades enclosed in the cartridge
- sabres, swords and swordsticks
- scalpels
- ski and walking/hiking poles
- throwing stars
- tradesman's tools that have the potential to be used as a pointed or edged weapon, inclusing drills and drill bite, box cutters, utility knives, all saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, wrenches/spanners and blow torches
Blunt instruments
Including but not limited to:
- baseball and softball bats
- clubs ar batons
- cricket bats
- golf clubs
- hockey sticks
- lacrosse sticks
- kayak and canoe paddles
- skateboards
- billiard, snooker and pool cues
- ski boots
- fishing rods
- martial arts equipment
