baggage - Lost/Damaged/Delayed Baggage
All passengers should ensure that they have some clear identification on the outside of their luggage.
In the unusual event your baggage is lost; you must complete a Property Irregularity Report Form at the airport.
Ground handling staff will make every effort to retrieve your luggage within 7 days. In most cases delayed baggage is recovered during that period of time and a local courier will send it to the address you specified on the form.
For information on the status of the search you should contact the local ground handling service - you will find the phone number on the Property Irregularity Report Form.
Alternatively, you can use our Baggage Tracing Facility here.
Monarch will search for your bags for a total period of 21 days. It is recommended that you contact your travel insurance company as soon as possible to make a claim.
You have left something on the aircraft
If you have left an item on one of our aircraft, please contact the relevant handling agent's lost property department.
Handling agents are solely responsible for recording and storing of any items found on board.
Monarch Airlines is unable to assist in locating lost property items and does not accept any liability for the loss of passengers’ personal belongings. We suggest in the first instance that you contact your personal travel insurance company.
Items have gone missing from your baggage
If you believe items have gone missing from your baggage, you will need to write to Monarch within 7 days with your flight details and a detailed list of the missing items.
Monarch does not accept liability for the loss or partial loss of fragile or perishable items, items having special value e.g. money, jewellery, precious metals, computers, personal electronic devices, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, or samples.
We suggest that you contact your travel insurance company in the first instance, as your policy should have more comprehensive cover than offered by the airline under the Montreal Convention. Your insurer may require you to report this incident to the Police.
In the unfortunate event your baggage is damaged, you will need to report this at the airport and obtain a Property Irregularity Report Form. Once you have obtained this form you should contact us. Our Baggage Enquiries team will arrange to send you a claim form or arrange for the item to be replaced.
If you did not report the damage before leaving the airport, please ensure that you contact us within 7 days of arrival.
If baggage cannot be carried on a flight, Monarch will make the appropriate arrangements to transport it to the destination subject to availability of flights.
Monarch will accept liability for delayed, damaged or lost baggage in accordance with the Montreal Convention which governs airlines around the world.
We would, however, always recommend that you contact your own insurance company as your policy may be more comprehensive than that of our liability under the Montreal Convention as detailed in our terms and conditions. It is always best to obtain adequate travel insurance fly.
