flights - luggage restrictions
Airlines have strict rules on carrying certain items in hand baggage including restrictions on liquids. Any sharp items such as nail scissors or metal nail files should be packed in your checked bags as they will be confiscated from your hand luggage.
Film and camera equipment is safe in hand luggage, but not in the bags you check into the hold. Please note that cigarette lighters and lighter fuel will not be allowed onto flights into the USA and will be confiscated. The US authorities screen all checked bags which means that in some instances, luggage will be opended after it has been checked in. Although we do not recommend leaving bags unlocked, you should consider using plastic cable or zip ties as an alternative to locks or pad locks. If a checked bag is searched, a notice to that effect will be inserted into the bag to notify the owner.
