Tenerife has two airports that serve the north and the south of the island: Los Rodeos for the north, and Tenerife South Airport for the south.

There is nothing better than grabbing your beach bag, throwing on some sunscreen, and heading down to the beach to bask in the sun. Tenerife’s beaches, with their stunning ocean views, are without doubt one of the island’s best features.
It’s no real surprise that the beaches in Tenerife are second to none, given that a lot of money has been invested to turn the once rocky coastline into the golden wonder it is today.
Tenerife’s best beaches lie on the southern coast, with Playa de Las Vistas and Playa de Las Americas being just two of the highlights, with several others having been awarded the European Blue Flag due to their cleanliness.
Medano, on Tenerife’s south-west coast, is perfect for the adventurous type who love to partake in water sports, with surfing being a particularly popular pastime. If sports are the last thing on your mind while holiday, Medano beach is still great as it is split into two zones, meaning that you can relax and sunbathe if you wish to.
If you fancy something a little different while in Tenerife, taking the chance to explore the wonderful sea life is highly recommended. There are several companies which offer a selection of diving and snorkelling experiences.
You can also get up close and personal with the whales and dolphins which inhabit the island’s surrounding waters. At any time of year you might be able to spot bottlenose dolphins, sperm whales, and pilot whales.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife (or Santa Cruz as it is commonly known) is the capital of the Canary Islands and is the perfect place to visit on a day out. There is a plethora of attractions including Plaza de España, which is the largest square on the island and has a beautiful artificial lake. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (Church of the Immaculate Conception) is also well worth a visit.
One of the greatest things about going abroad is trying another culture’s culinary offerings, and Tenerife is no exception. A particular food that is traditional of Tenerife is the Papas Arrugadas – potatoes that are usually served with a pepper sauce, known as a ‘mojo’, or served as an accompaniment themselves with meat. Those who love cheese will find themselves in paradise as the island has a rather impressive production of cheese on offer.
Tenerife is just one of seven Canary Islands. There are six others, including Lanzarote, La Palma, and Gran Canaria, which are well worth visiting if you have the time. Island hopping is very easy to do, with various inter-island flights available and ferry boats that will have you on a different island within a couple of hours.
