Vathy : Accommodation Only
Vathy is like stepping back in time. Although the capital town this quaint place is unspoilt with its red roofed houses, beautiful scenery such as Molos bay and traditional Venetian style buildings. It's hard to believe this charming town was destroyed in 1953 by an earthquake leaving all but a few buildings standing, but thankfully the town was rebuilt and because of strict architectural laws, all buildings since then have been rebuilt in the traditional styles and colours. If you wish to relax then head to one of the beaches or try a boat excursion and a spot of swimming or snorkelling to see the local marine life such as starfish, sea cucumbers, urchins and octopus. There are many local places of interest such as The Cave of the Nymphs where according to myth, Odysseus hid gifts that were bestowed upon him by Phaeacians or the Archaeological museum has a fascinating collection on display. Relax in the evening at a taverna and experience local dishes such moussaka and spanakopita while sipping a local wine.
