Lixouri : Holiday Accommodation
Just across the water from Argostoli on Kefalonia's Pari peninsula, friendly Lixouri is a great base for dipping into some fantastic local beaches.
A cheerful working port, life here revolves around the waterfront, dotted with Venetian mansions and unpretentious tavernas. The main square offers more eateries and bars, whilst the narrow streets beyond host enough shops for a morning or two's browsing.
Although there's no town beach, the local area comes up trumps. Catch a bus to the spectacular, cliff-framed red sands of Xi, Mega Laxos or beautiful Lepeda, where idyllic sands are washed by shallow seas. Or spend your days exploring rustic villages, the ruins at Pali or Kipoureon's clifftop monastery. And at night, return to Lixouri to enjoy its upbeat tavernas, dance to bouzoukis or even get down at the two out-of-town discos.
