The beaches on Symi tend to be pretty pebble affairs, however there are several sweeps of sand and shingle beach dotted around the island. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the harbour front which is popular with day trippers, you'll find a number of water taxi services on offer that can whisk you off to some of the Symi's more peaceful, secluded bays.
Monastery of Panormitis
Also know as the Monastery of the Archangel Michael, this impressive place of worship dominates the skyline over the bay of Panormitis. Parts of the original monastery date back to 450 AD, with the remainder added in keeping with the original style in the 18th century. Still popular with pilgrims from across Greece, you'll find the building now also houses a number of maritime artefacts in homage to Saint Michael, patron saint of sailors.
