Cyprus Holidays

Cyprus offers a huge amount of diversity, whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach break, or something a little more upbeat. With its perfect sand, historic sights and nightlife, Cyprus has always been a holiday favourite for families and night owls alike. There’s buzzing resorts on the edge of the island, and further in land, quaint sleepy villages and stunning views of the Troodos Mountains.

Paphos

To the west of the island, the vibrant resort of Paphos buzzes with life all year round. Explore the excavated Roman villas near the harbour and marvel at the earliest Christian basilica on the island. Paphos is also an excellent place for a cheap holiday to Cyprus, with the fast-growing Coral Bay to its north and a concentration of ancient sites in the surrounding lush countryside. Limassol is the place to come for seemingly endless stretches of beach.

Larnaca

The lively resort town of Larnaca can be found on the doorstep of Cyprus’ main international airport and boasts a seafront promenade filled with palm trees and tavernas. Enjoy a drink by the deep-water marina or delve into the island’s fascinating past at one of the town’s many archaeological museums. The Larnaca region of Cyprus is home to the family-favourite resort of Protaras; where perfect waters and golden stretches of sand always draw in holidaymakers.

Things to do in Cyprus

You’ll lose hours exploring Greek temples, ancient mosaics and medieval castles, set amidst serene and picturesque countryside in Cyprus.

  • At the heart of the island you will find the impressive Troodos Mountains. Mount Olympus is the highest peak rising to 1952 metres. There are lots of churches and monasteries dotted around the mountains. You can join a tour up the mountains to take in the view, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for one of the four waterfalls in the region.
  • The Paphos Mosaics are well-worth a visit; they are as eye-catching today as they were 2000 years ago, with beautiful marble relating to Greek mythology and Roman times. For a museum with a difference, you must visit Limassol's Folk Art Museum. A converted house, it feels far from a traditional museum, and contains over 500 items relating to Cyprus’ rich history, including cloth and traditional tools. Whilst you’re there, you must visit Limassol Castle, which is in the heart of the city. You’ll be amazed by the beautiful design of the castle itself, and you can discover more about the region in the Medieval Museum, which contains Ottoman pottery, tombstones and armour – with stunning views of the city, too.

Beaches in Cyprus

  • Some of the best beaches are to be found in the Ayia Napa area including Konnos Bay, here you can swim in turquoise waters but bear in mind it can get very busy with holidaymakers and locals alike. There are also plenty of other beaches worth a mention including the shoreline at Aphrodite’s Rock.
  • Nissi Bay close to Ayia Napa is a beach that offers it all, with beach bars, watersports, soft white sand and clear blue sea.
  • If you’re on a family holiday with the kids, then Coral Bay near Paphos is the perfect choice for you. The shallow waters are perfect for the little ones to cool off in. This is a large stretch of gorgeous sand, so even on a busy day you will find plenty of space to relax away from the hustle and bustle.
