The Algarve is fringed by many beaches along the coastline, often backed by rugged cliffs. Some of the best include Praia de Monte Gordo at the eastern end of the coast, Praia de Faro, which is close to the capital, Praia da Falesia, one of the longest beaches in the area and Praia do Amado on the west coast. Chances are you will have come across the stunning beach of Praia da Marinha. This beach is often voted in the top ten beaches in Europe. The beautiful cliff and rock arches are reflected in the crystal clear azure waters.

Golfing in the Algarve

The Algarve is considered to be one of the world's top golfing destinations. In fact, there’s over 25 courses in the 100-mile coastline, all within easy reach of each other. Vilamoura stands out as it’s home to five 18-hole courses, including the Oceanico Old Course as well as Vilamoura Old Course, Pinhal and Vila Sol. Golfers might also enjoy the courses at Salgados, Palmeres, Gramacho and Laguna!

Things to see and do in the Algarve

If you want a day of water based excitement then why not head to one of the many waterparks dotted along the coast:

  • Aqua Show near Quarteira - there are a whole host of chutes and slides here sure to thrill and delight. There is also a water roller coaster (the largest in Europe) as well as some brilliant rides if you don’t want to get in the water.
  • Aqualand Algarve in Alcantarilha is a great day out for the entire family with water attractions to please all.
  • The Algarve offers great watersports, including scuba diving for all levels. The scuba diving will reveal amazing rock formations, hidden grottos and shipwrecks and is well worth trying. Most resorts offer sailing experience; hire a small sail boat for the day, and explore the resorts by boat, taking it the beautiful Algarve coastline.
  • Cape Saint Vincent is also worth a visit. This headland jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean has some epic views across the sea. Stop off at the light house which is perched on the cliff edge for some wonderful holiday snaps.
  • The Fort of Santa Catarina along from Praia da Rocha is a great place to stop when you’re wandering and exploring. It offers a different view of the golden sands and resort.
