Beaches on the Estoril Coast

With so many beaches along the coastline on a holiday to Estoril Coast you’re really spoilt for choice. We recommend:

  • Tamariz Beach is great for all the family, it’s within walking distance of the Estoril resort. Overlooked by the medieval castle this wide stretch of sand is surrounded by many bars and restaurants when you want to get out of the midday sun and enjoy a delicious meal or snack. The water here is generally calm, if a little cold and perfect for a swim therefore this beach can get busy during the summer.
  • Praia da Poca is a little quieter. Further along the coast this beach rarely gets busy so is perfect for a restful day in the sunshine. The water here is clean and calm.
  • If you like getting out on the waves, then head to Praia do Guincho. The near constant waves make this beach ideal for the more experienced surfer but spectators are sure to have a great time watching those that take to the water.
  • Adraga beach is a sleepy cove about a half-hour drive from Sintra. The Atlantic waves roll onto this stretch of Europe's most westerly sands, making this a great spot for surfing as well as watching sunsets. Nearby there's a sheltered restaurant that's built into the cliffs which serves up freshly caught clams and glasses of fantastic Portuguese wine.
  • Guincho beach on Portugal's Estoril coast boasts shimmering golden sands, mystical orange rock, white-tipped foamy waves and deep blue skies.
  • If you're after water that's a little warmer and calmer, head to the Lagoa de Albufeira which is about a 40-minute drive south of Lisbon but well worth the day trip. Usually on the shallow side, it's perfect for young children to have a paddle, and the charming dunescape surroundings are perfect for a leisurely stroll by the waterside.

Things to see and do in Estoril Coast

  • Visit Cabo da Roca more commonly known as the ‘End of Europe’ as it is the most westerly point of mainland Europe. Here you can enjoys views of the glittering ocean as well as Sintra further along the coast.
  • A trip to the luxurious Cascais is a great day out. One of the best ways to get around and see all the sights is to hire a bike and explore. When you do, cycle along the coast line, past historical monuments and around the harbour for the best views.
  • Head away from the coastline up in to the pine covered hill and visit the picturesque resort of Sintra. Even though the town isn’t very large there is plenty to see. Take in the sights of colourful Pena Palace, Castelo of the Moors as well as Monserrate Palace.

There are a number of courses along the coastline which offer incredible sea views from many of the fairways. there seven courses close to Cascais alone, and over 20 within reach around the Lisbon area.
