Sacred to the three largest religions in the world, and home to some top universities, there’s no end of amazing things to experience whatever your belief. Throw in some delicious local cuisine and warm weather and a Jerusalem is a fantastic holiday destination all year round.
Wind your way through the souks and explore all 4 quarters of the famous Old Town; Jewish, Christian, Armenian and Muslim. The old city is home to lots of the major biblical sights including the Wailing Wall, Temple Mount and Zedikiah’s Cave, with the holy Mount of Olives and Bethlehem also a short hop from the centre.
There’s a new town too packed with shops and some great places to eat. Find all kinds of delicacies at the Machane Yehuda Market or relax in one of the parks. Cycling is a popular way to explore, especially during Shabbat when there are fewer cars on the road. If you’re after a party make sure you stay for Shabbat – every Friday afternoon businesses and services close up and Jerusalem’s citizens descend on the clubs and bars in the city centre for a night of celebrations.
