Florence: Introduction

Lying on the magnificent Arno River, and the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany, Florence is known for its history in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Bustling with a population of around 364,780, and a centre of European trade and finance, you are guaranteed an active holiday, with plenty of art and architecture, commerce and culture, and industry and craft to take in. Florence also boasts fantastic transport links, being easily accessible to the most famous sights and events of Italy and even abroad, with the 'Vespucci' airport just 5km away. The Florentine weather is variable, but usually boasts hot summers with high humidity. Winters can be cold and wet, but can also be short, with spring never far away. This 'famous historical centre' each year attracts millions of tourists, and was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1982.
