flight crew

Monarch Airlines currently employs over 415 highly qualified flight crew - comprising captains and first officers. Our crews are based at Luton, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester airports operating a 32 strong fleet consisting of A300-600, A320, A321, A330, B757 and B767 aircraft. Our route system is extensive and varied, ranging from European scheduled flights to world-wide charters.

We have also ordered six brand new ultra efficient Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners as part of our wide-bodied fleet modernisation programme. The first of these aircraft is due for delivery in 2013.

employment as flight crew

We only recruit for the position of first officer on A320/A321, B757 and A300-600 (depending on vacancies) and currently have an on-going requirement for experienced pilots. Advancement to mixed fleet flying (A320/A321/A330 and B757/B767) is based on seniority within these fleets. Subsequent promotion to captain depends upon suitable assessment and seniority, and at the moment the time to command is approximately 7 years. If you are interested in working with us please read the information on the rest of this page and, if you have not already done so, you are invited to submit a profile on your career to date so that we can learn a little more about you.

what qualifications do pilot applicants need?

Normally the minimum qualifications and experience that we require from pilot applicants are:

  • A UK national or JAR-FCL ATPL (or Frozen ATPL) with Class 1 medical certificate
  • At least 2000 hours total time in fixed wing aircraft, including 500 hours completed on a heavy turbo prop or jet in excess of 15 tonnes
  • MCC qualified
  • The permanent right to live and work in the UK

Occasionally we may recruit pilots with lower total experience, but who possess a type rating for one of the aircraft types that we operate.

what is the employment package?

We offer:

  • A starting salary of £47305 pa for experienced pilots
  • Hourly flying allowances (typically amounting to around £4,000 pa)
  • Loss of licence insurance
  • Private medical insurance
  • A defined contribution pension scheme
  • Staff travel benefits

training

Monarch Airlines is an approved TRTO (Type Rating Training Organisation) meaning that pilots can be trained in-house to qualify on any of the aircraft types that we operate. This ensures that the training received by our pilots during their careers with us is of the highest standard, something that we are very proud of.

Pilots who require type-rating training when they first join us must enter into an agreement to refund reasonable training costs should they leave the company after a relatively short time. This currently stands at £18,000 reducing linearly to zero over a period of three years.

At the moment we do not offer sponsorship or ab-initio training.
