Attard : Accommodation Only
Attard is a peaceful and charming village situated in the centre of Malta, about half way between the medieval walled city of Mdina and the modern capital Valletta. Attard, together with its neighbouring villages Lija and Balzan, form an area that is known as the 'Three Villages'. The Knights of Malta built their country retreats here, many with beautiful large gardens, and the area is still full of stunning villas. The most famous landmark is San Anton Palace, built in the late 16th century and now the official residence of the President of Malta. The palace is set in splendid formal gardens, open to the public and well worth a visit. The three villages are so close that they almost merge into one and it is a delight to stroll through the old, narrow streets and alleys admiring the Baroque buildings and quaint old churches and chapels - St Mary's Church is considered to be one of the finest Renaissance buildings in Malta. Nearby Ta Qali National Park, once a wartime airfield, is now a large recreation area housing an aviation museum, the National Stadium, a children's adventure park and a crafts village where you can watch artisans at work and buy souvenirs such as Mdina glass, jewellery and pottery. The tranquil setting makes Attard a perfect destination for those looking for a relaxing holiday, but its proximity to the cities and Malta's other attractions also make it an ideal base for those wanting to explore this beautiful island.
