- Monarch sees market share from Manchester go from strength to strength -
Award winning low fares airline Monarch has reason to celebrate amongst the current gloom within the travel industry as figures recently released by the CAA shows that its market share has soared on its scheduled destinations served from Manchester in May 2009.
The airline is now market leader and carries more passengers than any other airline on 10 routes served from the north-west airport, which include a variety of destinations throughout Mainland Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands, Portugal, Cyprus and Gibraltar. Barcelona is the most popular route in terms of market share, enjoying 70.88% of the total market from Manchester.
The biggest increases in market share for May 2009 compared to April 2009 could be seen on Lanzarote, Faro and Tenerife:
- Lanzarote – increased market share by 17.77% in May to 38.85%
- Faro – increased market share by 8.18% in May to 50.84%
- Tenerife – increased market share by 5.97% in May to 34.28%
Commenting on the soaring market share in May, managing director of Monarch Flights and Holidays, Liz Savage said, “It is an excellent achievement to be market leader on 10 of the 13 scheduled routes we operate from Manchester and clearly demonstrates that despite increasing competition, when customers have a choice, they prefer to fly with Monarch.
“We are delighted to have increased market share to Lanzarote and Tenerife by such a huge percentage month on month compared to April 09, proving that Monarch’s onboard service to mid-haul destinations, which includes extra legroom seating, a range of tasty hot and cold food and selected in-flight entertainment is over and above the levels provided on some other airlines and customers are clearly voting with their feet.”
Monarch operates scheduled flights to Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal and Cyprus from Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester airports. In addition to year-round low fares, Monarch also offers a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals onboard with prices from £3.00. To avoid a last minute free-for-all when boarding, seats can be pre-booked at £7.50 per one-way flight, or from only £15, extra-legroom seats are available, which offer up to six inches of extra space.
Passengers travelling on scheduled flights can also avoid the queues at the airport and take advantage of online check-in which is available between seven days and 4.5 hours prior to departure.
In addition to flights, Monarch also now offers a huge range of great value holidays, accommodation options, car hire and travel insurance.
