Award winning low fares airline Monarch has seen strong demand for scheduled flights in September 2009, with average load factors across the network reaching 88.63% - a 2.3% increase on the same period last year.
Demand for flights to Cyprus has grown substantially year on year, with Monarch carrying 67% more passengers last month compared to September 2008. The Canary Islands continue to see growth also, with 61% more holidaymakers heading to Lanzarote and 12% more to the ever-popular Tenerife. The Balearic Island of Menorca was also boosted with 39% more passengers travelling compared to last year.
Commenting on the traffic increases for September, managing director of Monarch Flights and Holidays, Liz Savage said, “The summer just didn’t seem to arrive in the UK this year and as a result we’re seeing strong and consistent demand for our flights, with the mid-haul destinations in our scheduled network remaining strong and proving once again they are firm favourites with customers.
“We took the decision to slightly reduce the amount of available capacity in September compared to the same period last year, and while this means that overall passenger numbers have decreased for the month, our load factor of over 88% shows that despite the economic climate people are still travelling in their droves.”
Monarch operates scheduled flights to Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal and Cyprus from Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester airports.
