Monarch, the leading scheduled leisure airline, celebrated its first departure from its new base, Leeds Bradford Airport on Friday 14 December. The twice weekly route to Munich was one of the first flights to depart from the new terminal which was officially opened on Friday morning by the Rt. Hon William Hague MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Monarch passengers enjoyed celebratory cake and drinks before embarking on the inaugural flight.  A second winter route to the ski destination of Grenoble, also twice weekly, has its inaugural flight on Saturday 15 December.

The new routes to Grenoble in France and Munich in Germany are renowned for their excellent links to popular ski destinations. Within two hours of Grenoble are the fashionable resorts of Val d'Isère, Tignes, La Plagne and Meribel. Less than 90 minutes from Munich is the Bavarian mountain resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and many other well-known ski-resorts in the Austrian Alps with great slopes and après ski. Munich is also famed for its beautiful Christmas markets which run from the end of November until Christmas Eve.

For summer 2013 the airline will launch twelve new routes, as well as the continuation of the Munich route. Two A320 aircraft based at Leeds Bradford will provide a new choice for customers seeking to travel to Monarch’s extensive range of leisure destinations.  The new scheduled services will include flights to key destinations across the Mediterranean, including Turkey, Italy, Cyprus, Palma and Portugal.
