2012 News - Flights - Monarch Airlines introduces new social media campaign with remedies for the winter blues

In a move to support their winter sun campaign, the leading scheduled leisure airline, Monarch, is launching the first of three ‘webisodes’ on YouTube this week. They all feature the fictional character, Dr Gideon Day, played by the renowned actor, Tristan Gemmill, famed for his role as Dr Adam Trueman in the BBC’s long running hospital drama, Casualty.
 

The tag line, ‘Remedy for the Winter Blues’ forms the basis for the soap opera style ‘webisodes’ and runs through all Monarch’s press online, social and TV advertising for the winter 2012/13 season. The three short comedy episodes, set in the fictional St Grey Surgery, with story lines all based around the remedy that sun is the best way to beat the winter blues, will be released one a week for the next three weeks.


The ‘webisodes’ will also feed into the Monarch Facebook page where, if viewers spot several deliberate continuity errors, they will be eligible to win free flights to a winter sun destination. There is a pair of flights available per week over the three consecutive weeks.


Facebook visitors will also have the chance to receive a free ‘Winter Blues Consultation’ from Dr Grey, who will offer each user a fun ‘diagnosis and prescription’ for their complaint, together with a discount code which can be used against flights booked before the end of March 2013.


Commenting on this new approach, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines, Kevin George said, “When we were considering how best to promote our flights to winter sun destinations we realised how we really do suffer in the UK from the ‘winter blues’ with our shorter days, rain and cold. Hence the tag line, ‘Remedy for the Winter Blues’ was born.
“We recognise the importance of social media in reaching our target markets and these fun ‘webisodes’ are our way of showing customers, in an entertaining way, which flights to our winter sun destinations can be the remedy and prescription for their winter blues. We are sure our customers will enjoy this new and original on-line campaign.”
