- passengers travel over 20 million miles with low cost airline -
This month, low cost airline Monarch Scheduled celebrates five years of flying from Manchester Airport.
Since launching its Manchester base back in 2000, the airline has:
Carried over 2.2 million people – enough to fill Old Trafford more than 40 times over!
Covered almost 21 million miles – equivalent to 87 trips to the moon!
Operated almost 18,500 flights
Had an aircraft in the air for nearly 27,000 hours – equal to over three years!
Served passengers with more than two million meals
If all the Monarch Scheduled passengers carried to and from Manchester in the past five years held hands, they’d reach all the way from Manchester to Madrid, one of the airline’s newest destinations launched just last month.
Jonathan Crick, Monarch Scheduled’s sales & marketing director, commented “This is a great milestone for us. We initially launched with two routes to Spain and have steadily grown our network over the five years, increasing capacity ten-fold. Most recently, we added daily services to Madrid and Naples, along with four flights per week to Almeria, offering people in the North even more choice when it comes to low cost flights. We would not have been able to grow at such a rapid rate were it not for the support of the management team at Manchester Airport who have helped us every step of the way. People in Manchester now enjoy the most competitive airfares ever and we remain committed to delivering our trademark service at a low price.”
Monarch Scheduled’s winter 05/06 timetable has just gone on sale, but there are still seats available from as little as £49 one way (including tax) for those of you considering a summer getaway in June or July. You could check out newly-launched Naples, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast; soak up some sunshine and culture in another brand new route, Madrid, the capital of Spain or you might prefer citybreaking in cosmopolitan Barcelona – simply visit www.flymonarch.com for all the latest deals.
Monarch Scheduled operates flights to Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Italy from Manchester. Fares start from just £43 one way and include complimentary daily newspapers and a refreshing hot towel service. Also available is a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals with prices from £2.50. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all and regular travellers are rewarded with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme Vantage Club.
