- Low cost airline launches flights from Birmingham International Airport to Almeria -
Hot on the heels of Monarch Scheduled’s September announcement of expansion from Birmingham International Airport, the low cost carrier today launches yet another new route with the addition of Almeria to its rapidly expanding network.
From 05 May 2006, Monarch Scheduled will operate three flights per week* to this Spanish hotspot, situated in the easternmost province in Andalucía and the gateway to some of Spain’s most beautiful and least crowded beaches. Seats go on sale today via www.flymonarch.com from as little as £48.99 one way including all taxes (£88.99 return).
Commenting on the developments, Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch Scheduled said, “Birmingham is quickly becoming one of Monarch Scheduled’s most popular bases and we have been delighted by the response of the people from the Midlands to our expansion plans for 2006. Having already sold in excess of 24,000 seats for Summer 2006, I am confident that the addition of Almeria to the programme will prove to be another huge success for Monarch Scheduled and a popular year round destination for our customers in the Midlands.”
Monarch Scheduled only recently announced new services from Birmingham International Airport to Murcia (four times per week*), Menorca (three times per week*) and Palma de Mallorca (once per week*) for 2006. In addition, flights to the popular hotspots of Tenerife and Alicante will continue, and a vastly increased capacity will be added to a number of other existing routes:
five extra flights per week to Malaga* – this means a double-daily service to and from the Costa del Sol’s most popular city each Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and represents a 40% capacity increase on the route compared to Summer 05
a 600% increase in frequency to Faro* – proving such a popular route, flights to the Algarve will operate everyday instead of just once per week
Monarch Scheduled’s Birmingham base began operating flights to four destinations in April 2005 and this increases to eight destinations from Summer ’06. Fares start from just £43.99 one way including all taxes (£78.99 return) and include complimentary daily newspapers and a refreshing hot towel service; also available is a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals with prices from £3.00. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all and regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.
