Monarch passenger pops the question at 35,000 feet
Alison Hicklin’s flight from London Gatwick to Malaga with Monarch began like any other, but ended very differently as she landed in Spain engaged to boyfriend Charlie Quinn!
Miss Hicklin was surprised at 35,000 feet by boyfriend Charlie who, unbeknownst to her, had planned to propose on the Valentine’s Day flight and enlisted the help of Monarch Airlines to make sure their engagement began on a high! Once she said ‘yes’, Monarch captain Dave Parker made a special announcement to the rest of the passengers and a round of applause went up for the happy couple.
Charlie, (51) from Gibraltar said, “Ali and I are emigrating to Spain with our son Joseph , and I could think of no better way to begin this new adventure than asking Ali to be my wife. "I had a spot of butterflies before asking Ali but I was over the moon when she said yes, and we cracked open a bottle of champagne which the cabin crew kindly gave us to celebrate."
Alison, 38, from Harthill, Sheffield added: "I couldn’t believe it when Charlie suddenly got down on one knee in the middle of the aircraft, but I had no hesitation in saying yes. We’d both like to thank everyone at Monarch Airlines who helped to make this happen – it was an unforgettable day and made the beginning of our life in Spain extra-special."
