23 09 2003
Leisure carrier Monarch Airlines has presented Macmillan Cancer Relief with a cheque for £177,000, donated as a result of its on board fundraising activities this year.
Since Monarch began supporting Macmillan over eight years ago, it has raised a total of nearly £1.3 million, through collecting donations of unwanted foreign currency on our flights. This figure was only achievable through the hard work and dedication of Monarch’s cabin crew and the generosity of its passengers.
In the UK, four in ten people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime and over a million people are currently living with cancer. Macmillan Cancer Relief provides the expert care and practical and emotional support which is changing the lives of people living with cancer today.
Maria Stepin, cabin crew manager, Monarch Airlines said “We are very proud to be able to present this cheque to Macmillan Cancer Relief. It is thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of our cabin crew, and the generosity of our passengers that we have managed to raise such a large sum”
Judy Beard, Director of Fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Relief said, "We would like to thank Monarch and their passengers for raising this fantastic amount for Macmillan. Money raised funds specialist Macmillan nurses and doctors who deliver the best in cancer care; build vitally needed cancer care centres, give financial help to those who need it most, and provide a range of cancer information both locally and nationally."Previous Page
