2008 News Archive - Flights - Monarch expands services in Birmingham and Manchester
26 06 2006
Low fares airline, Monarch, has today announced expansion plans at two of its key UK bases, which further strengthens the airline’s position as the leading low cost carrier in both Birmingham and Manchester.
Expansion plans in Birmingham for Summer 2007 include the addition of new aircraft, the creation of 50 new jobs, the launch of a new service to Ibiza as well as 50% more flights which will see schedules to Alicante, Palma and Murcia doubling in frequency.
This will mean that only 15 months after the airline’s first flight from the Midlands, Monarch will base four aircraft, employ over 200 people and carry over half a million passengers from Birmingham.
Whilst the rest of the Summer 2007 schedule has not yet been published, Monarch has confirmed that it is also to launch flights to Jerez from Manchester, with services starting on 25 March 2007. These will be the only direct flights between the UK and Jerez from anywhere outside of London.
Commenting on the expansion plans, managing director of Monarch’s scheduled services, Tim Jeans, said, “It’s simple – passengers love our service and come back for more. They’re fed up with cattle-truck conditions and catering from the British Rail era. They want to be treated like paying customers and that’s what Monarch delivers on every flight.”
Jeans continues, “We’re now the number one international carrier from Manchester and well on the way to that status in Birmingham. We’re a service business and by keeping our passengers happy, Monarch will keep growing.
“The introduction of the new services to both Ibiza and Jerez are great news for passengers travelling from Birmingham and Manchester. The addition of a further Airbus A321 aircraft in Birmingham also allows us to increase the number of flights operated from the airport to 120 per week and enables us to provide our Midlands passengers with increased frequencies to match their demand”.
Flights from Birmingham for Summer 2007 plus flights between Manchester and Jerez have gone on sale today and can be booked via www.flymonarch.com or by calling 08700 40 63 00.
