2008 News Archive - Flights - Monarch launches Self Service Check-In at Manchester Airport
23 06 2006
We all know the horrible feeling when you’re late and rushing to catch a flight. You’ve been stuck in a meeting that’s over-run; there’s a five mile hold up on the motorway and when you finally arrive at the airport and race into the terminal building, you’re faced with a check-in queue ten deep.
Disaster. Or maybe not if you’re flying with Monarch on one of their scheduled service flights.
From Wednesday 21 June 2006, Monarch will be launching a new self service check-in system at Manchester Airport, which will speed up the overall check-in process and reduce the amount of time passengers spend queuing to check-in.
The new Common Use Self Service kiosks (CUSS), which are situated in and around Manchester Airport, will enable passengers travelling on scheduled flights to retrieve their booking (by swiping their passport through the machine), check themselves in for their flight and print their boarding card. Any pre-allocated seats will automatically be assigned, and if no seat has been pre-booked, the passenger will be given the option to select their seat from those remaining in the cabin.
Passengers travelling with hold baggage can then take these to the ‘fast bag drop’ desk, where they will be tagged as normal and sent down the baggage belt to be loaded on to the aircraft.
Commenting on the introduction of self service check-in, Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch’s scheduled division said, “Monarch is the first low-cost airline to launch the new CUSS kiosks at Manchester Airport and we are confident that our passengers will very quickly realise the benefits of using them.A third of our loyalty programme members, Vantage Club, fly regularly from Manchester and we consistently try to improve the levels of service we provide for both them and the rest of our passengers. The launch of the new CUSS kiosks will help us to do this, by streamlining the check-in process and shortening queues”.
Monarch operates scheduled flights from Manchester to Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona, Faro, Gibraltar, Lanzarote*, Malaga, Menorca, Palma and Tenerife. Fares include complimentary daily newspapers, a refreshing hot towel service and require no additional payment for checking-in baggage; also available is a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals with prices from £3.00. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all, or for only £15, why not try one of the 48 extra-legroom seats which offer up to six inches of extra space? Regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.
