2008 News Archive - Flights - Monarch Scheduled doubles frequencies from Manchester and launches new Palma route for summer 2003
11 10 2002
MONARCH SCHEDULED has announced major expansion plans for the north which will firmly establish the airline as Manchester’s leading low cost carrier. Flight frequencies to Alicante, Malaga and Faro are set to double and the airline will launch Manchester’s first scheduled service to Palma in Mallorca for summer 2003. The new timetable, which is now on sale, represents a 114% increase in capacity from Manchester.
To celebrate the announcement Monarch Scheduled has announced a winter special on flights from Manchester and London Luton to Faro and Malaga for a limited period. One-way fares start from £39 from London Luton and £49 from Manchester, including tax, for travel from November 4 - December 19, 2002. Bookings must be made between October 12 - 21, 2002.
Monarch Scheduled’s commercial director Jonathan Crick said: “We are delighted to announce our expansion plans for Manchester which come just two years after Monarch Scheduled launched at the airport. We are the only low cost carrier operating out of Manchester and, in line with the current trend for independent travel, we have witnessed a consistent increase in demand for seats.
“The new summer 2003 schedule represents significant growth - but is only the first stage of our development plans. We will continue to expand Monarch Scheduled’s northern operation over the coming years to further build upon our position as Manchester’s leading low cost carrier.”
Monarch Scheduled’s Faro service, which was launched last year, will increase from three flights a week to a daily service. Flights to Alicante and Malaga will now operate both a morning and afternoon service, while the new Palma route will fly daily.
Monarch Scheduled services out of London Luton remain the same for summer 2003 with eight flights per week to Malaga, daily flights to Alicante and Gibraltar, three flights per week to Faro and Menorca, and two flights per week to Tenerife.
