- low cost airline is market leader in June 2005 -
Just two months after launching its brand new base, low cost airline Monarch Scheduled became the market leader from Birmingham International Airport to Malaga. During June 2005, 43,423 people travelled between the two cities – an increase of almost 40% on the previous year – and almost a quarter of these (10,182) chose to fly with Monarch Scheduled over any other airline.
The route has become increasingly popular in recent times. The number of people travelling between Birmingham and Malaga between July 2004 and June 2005 was up by almost 10% year-on-year to 335,867.
Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch Scheduled, comments, “To become the market leader on a route just two months after launching it is an achievement we are incredibly proud of. Our daily flights between Birmingham and Malaga have proved popular with both people from the West Midlands jetting off for low cost summer sunshine, and Spanish tourists visiting the UK.”
As well as offering easy access to popular coastal holiday resorts such as Marbella, Torremolinos and Benalmadena, Malaga itself is a charming city. It successfully combines bustling markets and energetic nightlife with the tranquil greenery of one of Spain’s most beautiful national parks and miles of sandy beaches.
Monarch Scheduled launched its base at Birmingham International Airport in April 2005, offering flights to Faro, Alicante, Malaga and Tenerife. Fares start from just £43 one way including taxes (£74 return) and include complimentary daily newspapers and a refreshing hot towel service; also available is a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals with prices from £2.50. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all, or you might prefer to try one of the 48 extra-legroom seats which offer up to six inches of extra space for just £15 each way. Regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.
