2008 News Archive - Flights - Monarch Scheduled launches daily Barcelona service from Manchester
08 08 2003
Fancy a short break to Barcelona or Costa Brava this winter? Low cost carrier Monarch Scheduled has made it much easier for people to take a short break to this popular destination as it announces it is to launch a daily service from Manchester to Barcelona on 1 November.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of Monarch Scheduled’s recent news that it is to launch a further two new services from Manchester – Gibraltar and Tenerife. These three new routes will complement the airlines’ existing services to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Palma. The addition of this new route means that Monarch Scheduled’s services will have grown by over 200 per cent from Manchester since last winter.
The new routes will operate on a 180-seater A320 aircraft. Fares** start from £51 return*.
Jonathan Crick, commercial director, Monarch Scheduled commented: “We are delighted to be adding Barcelona to our route network from Manchester and this further expansion demonstrates our commitment to developing services from the airport. Barcelona is one of the UK’s most popular short break destinations, but not currently very accessible for the people in the north of England.
“It is an ideal addition to the Monarch Scheduled programme as it has a broad mix of business and leisure passengers, including city breakers alongside those heading for the beach. Barcelona is also used as a gateway to the ski slopes of the Pyrenees in winter. All of these customers will appreciate the convenience and flexibility of a daily service. This destination tends to attract more discerning passengers who will value Monarch Scheduled’s low cost with frills product and attention to service detail.”
John Spooner, managing director of Manchester Airport said: "Monarch Scheduled is becoming an increasingly important operator of new, low cost scheduled services from Manchester. This is more great news for Manchester and the north west."

**Update May 2004
Monarch Scheduled announced it is to introduce a new, innovative in-flight menu, which is available on all flights from 2004. Instead of offering the traditional set meal included in the price, passengers will now have the option of buying a delicious hot meal, freshly baked snack, light salad, imaginatively filled sandwich or full English breakfast - at any time of day.
Hot drinks are also available, plus a selection of wines, spirits and minerals. Fares include complimentary daily newspapers, hot towels, in-flight TV and reserved seating. A frequent flyer scheme - Vantage Club - offers a host of benefits for regular travellers.Previous Page
