Low cost airline Monarch’s new service from Birmingham to Murcia begins today, further enhancing the airline’s offering to travellers to and from the Costa Calida.
Since announcing the service in September 05, Monarch says it has been a “runaway success” with over 20,000 advance bookings already taken for the four times weekly flights.
Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch’s scheduled services said. “Birmingham is quickly becoming one of Monarch’s most popular bases and we have been delighted by the response of the people from the Midlands to our new service to Murcia; proof that we are providing something the region clearly wants – low fares and a high quality service to the right destinations.
“Bookings for the summer are 150% up on last year and I am confident that the addition of Murcia to the programme will prove to be another huge success for Monarch and a popular year round destination for our customers in the Midlands.”
Since opening its Birmingham base in April 05, Monarch has carried more than 260,000 passengers to and from Europe, and the introduction of services to Almeria, Faro, Lanzarote and Palma de Mallorca in May, will see the number of routes operated by the airline from the airport rise to nine.
Monarch operates scheduled flights to Alicante, Almeria, Faro, Lanzarote, Malaga, Menorca, Murcia, Palma and Tenerife from Birmingham. Fares, including taxes, start from just £44.50 one way (£75.99 return) and include complimentary daily newspapers, a refreshing hot towel service and require no additional payment for checking-in baggage; also available is a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals with prices from £3.00. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all, or for only £15, why not try one of the 48 extra-legroom seats which offer up to six inches of extra space? Regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.
