- first flight departs for Menorca -
Low cost airline Monarch reports “massive” demand on its latest new service from Manchester to Mahon (Menorca) with the first flight departing today.
Monarch says over 15,000 advance bookings have been taken for its four times weekly flights – the first scheduled service to the island from any airport outside London.
Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch’s scheduled services said, “Menorca is a wonderful holiday island, which combines the best of all the things the Mediterranean has to offer: a welcoming summer climate and beautiful beaches making it an ideal destination for families and couples alike.
“As the North’s leading low cost airline, we are delighted to extend our range of flights from Manchester – our largest UK base, further proving our commitment to the airport and enabling us to offer people in the north-west even more low fares.”
The airline already carries 50,000 holidaymakers to Menorca each year using its existing service from London Luton, and is the only low cost carrier offering direct flights to the island from Manchester.
Up to four flights a week to Menorca operate from Manchester on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with fares starting from just £40.50 one way including taxes (£71.99 return).
Monarch operates scheduled flights to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar from Manchester. Fares include complimentary daily newspapers, a refreshing hot towel service and require no additional payment for checking-in baggage; also available is a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals with prices from £3.00. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all, or for only £15, why not try one of the 48 extra-legroom seats which offer up to six inches of extra space? Regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.
