2008 News Archive - Flights - So Faro, so good for new Monarch Scheduled route
22 03 2002
Less than a week after revealing a new name and image for its scheduled service arm, Monarch Scheduled celebrated the successful launch of its new service from Manchester Airport to Faro in the Algarve, Portugal, on Thursday 21 March 2002.
The inaugural flight left Manchester Airport at 0900 with a full passenger load. Passengers were greeted at the gate with cake and champagne, and welcome speeches were given by Jonathan Crick, commercial director, Monarch Airlines and John Spooner, managing director, Manchester Airport. On arrival in Faro the aircraft was baptised by the fire crew at Faro Airport who created an arch with their hoses.
The new Faro service operates on a Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and compliments Monarch Scheduled’s existing programme of daily flights from Manchester Airport to Alicante and Malaga. A new scheduled service from London Luton Airport to Faro is due to commence on 2 May 2002.
“This is a particularly important time for us having recently changed our name to Monarch Scheduled and introduced a new livery for our aircraft,” Jonathan Crick commented. “Since we launched scheduled services from Manchester Airport in May 2000, we have received huge support from people in the north region. As a result, we’ve doubled the number of flights to Alicante and Malaga and we’re delighted to be further adding to our programme out of Manchester with this new scheduled service to Faro.”
John Spooner commented, “Monarch Scheduled’s decision to further add to their programme of flights from Manchester, is a vote of confidence in the airport. Adding this popular European destination to our flight programme will extend the choice for our passengers. I am sure this new route to Faro will be very popular.”
Prices to Faro start from £144 per person (including tax) for a return flight from Manchester Airport. Bookings can be made by calling 08700 40 50 40 or on-line via Monarch Scheduled’s website www.flymonarch.com.
Update May 2004
Monarch Scheduled announced it is to introduce a new, innovative in-flight menu, which is available on all flights from 2004. Instead of offering the traditional set meal included in the price, passengers will now have the option of buying a delicious hot meal, freshly baked snack, light salad, imaginatively filled sandwich or full English breakfast - at any time of day.
Hot drinks are also available, plus a selection of wines, spirits and minerals. Fares include complimentary daily newspapers, hot towels, in-flight TV and reserved seating. A frequent flyer scheme - Vantage Club - offers a host of benefits for regular travellers.Previous Page
