Chocolate-lovers and curious foodies will find a lot to enjoy if they visit the Tuscan town of Monsummano Terme in early February.
Attracting holiday-makers from all over the world, the Cioccolosita festival aims to celebrate the old-fashioned art of chocolate making, with plenty of opportunities to sample the results.
Several international exhibitors will be on hand for the three-day event, which aims to encourage the discarding additives such as vegetable fat in favour of using pure cocoa butter in combination with flavours such as liqueurs and coffee.
For those who appreciate a bit of education with their culinary enjoyment, the Slow Food Foundation is also providing a presentation on sustainable agriculture, including a discussion of current ethical cocoa-growing projects.
A recent UK study found that the pleasure of eating chocolate could be greater than that of a lover's kiss, as measured by an elevated heart rate.
