2008 News Archive - Holidays - Art savvy South Africa

13 07 2007

Any discernible fashion-follower should enjoy time away in South Africa this summer, as the country offers the best of Africa's fashion and arts.

Between the August 8th and 11th, Cape Town will become the home of style, as it hosts its very own fashion week.

Aiming to celebrate the best of African fashion finesse, the event will be in its fifth year and promises to provide a meeting place for diverse and rich talents.

Paul Jackson, the managing director of Leisureworx, explains the aim of the event is to give South African designers "promotional platforms" from which to compete with other textile producing countries.

The vision of the project is that it is "accessible to designers and the public and is not elitist", he comments.

For those more concerned with the arts, the Arts Alive festival held in Johannesburg this September may be appealing.

The city's director of arts, culture and heritage services, Steven Sack, hopes the celebrations will be "an outstanding display of artistic talent".
