2008 News Archive - Holidays - Can't say no to Cairo

01 11 2007

Ask many people to mention a north African city associated with a film and the answer could be Casablanca, but for a chance to see a wide range of silver screen offerings, Cairo is the place to go this winter.

Between November 27th and December 7th, the Cairo International Film Festival will take place, showing not just a wide variety of films but wilfully stepping into areas of controversy over politics and social issues.

The festival represents a long tradition of film-making in the country, with its international profile heightened by the presence of Omar Sharif as the honorary president.

Going to the film festival is just one of many exciting things to do in and around Cairo.

These include a bit of Christmas shopping in one of the many Bazaars, the historic buildings of the old city and of course the greatest wonder of Egypt, the pyramids, which are just a few miles away.
