2008 News Archive - Holidays - Celebrate Fantasy Fest in Key West

10 10 2008

Fans of the extravagant and beautiful are in for a treat in Key West this month, with this year's annual Fantasy Fest due to take place.

From October 17th-26th the area will host a ten-day celebration of all things fantastical, with costume competitions, masquerade balls and other events.

In a year when the US will pick its next president for four more years, whatsonwhen.com reports that this year's theme will be Pirates, Pundits and Political Party Animals.

The festival has been running for more than 25 years on the island sometimes dubbed 'Key Weird', and will begin in 2008 with the Royal Coronation Ball where the queen and king of the festival will be named.

Fantasy competitors can also fight it out for the best crown trophy at the Headdress Ball and the best pet-owner look-a-like contest at the Pet Masquerade and Parade.

As well as costumes and balls, visitors to the island can enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling in the coral reefs and wrecks, Key West Paradise reports.
