A Greek government minister has visited Corfu on a whistle-stop tour of the "top tourist destinations" in Greece.
Tourism development minister Aris Spiliotopoulos made the Ionian island his first stop on the tour, Athens News Agency.
Mr Spiliotopoulos has stated that the tourism ministry intends to support moves to relaunch Corfu as a 'glamorous' location and as one of Greece's most popular holiday destinations.
Local officials note that improved promotion of Corfu to its main markets of the UK and Germany are required
Mr Spiliotopoulos responded affirmatively, promising to market the Greek island at the upcoming World Travel Market exhibition in London.
Ecotourism will also be at the heart of a new tourist drive, according to the minister.
Responsible Travel recently reported that green holidays are becoming more popular.
