2008 News Archive - Holidays - Cyprus is 'a romantic hotspot'

05 12 2008

Cyprus has become the most popular overseas destination for young couples looking to get married, according to a UK tour operator.

A spokesman from First Choice revealed that Cyprus is becoming something of a hotspot for romance, as couples flock to the beautiful Mediterranean island to take their wedding vows.

The operator says that this forms part of a wider trend of young couples not only taking their honeymoon abroad, but also choosing to get married in far-flung places.

Ian Davis, general manager of long haul and weddings for the company, said: "Cyprus is the most popular destination overall for us. Following Colleen and Wayne's wedding [in Positano], we have noticed Italy as a destination grow in popularity."

Young couples looking for a spot of romance may also find that a honeymoon or holiday in Cyprus does not have to break the bank.

According to Post Office travel, the Turkish lira, which is used on the North of the island, has fallen significantly against the pound this year.
