2008 News Archive - Holidays - Dominican Republic is "attractive" to Brits

23 06 2008

The Dominican Republic is an attractive holiday destination for Britons despite comments published in a British tabloid suggesting it is "dodgy".

Dominican Today reports that the Dominican ambassador in Great Britain, Aníbal de Castro, defended the destination following a report in the Mirror which described it as the "world's dodgiest holiday destination".

Mr de Castro however claimed that the comments were the "exclusive opinion" of the creators of the list and "in no way" an independent objective survey, instead taking its basis from "mere subjective considerations".

"Dominicans must understand that the professional standards of British tabloids don't necessarily correspond with ours and for that reason all material those newspapers publish must be read from a different angle," the ambassador commented.

He added that the Dominican Republic is "still" an attractive destination for British tourists despite the tabloid claims as the number of arrivals has risen from 90,000 to 200,000 in the last four years.
