2008 News Archive - Holidays - Dubai airport scoops award

31 01 2007

Dubai International Airport has been recognised by readers of Business Traveller as the best airport in the Middle East and Africa.

The airport, which handled 28.7 million passengers last year, received five separate awards during the course of 2006 and it provides an appropriately spectacular gateway to the magnificent city and emirate.

HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, said: "This award is a reaffirmation of our efforts to provide the highest standard of service and the best of facilities to passengers."

Dubai's popularity is continuing to soar and officials expect the airport to handle as many as 33 million people this year.

Many of these will be hoping to explore the intriguing contrast provided by Dubai's rich cultural heritage and its current status as one of the world's most dynamic and affluent areas.

Dubai is also one of the planet's premier shopping destinations, recently attracting hundreds of thousands of spendaholics to the Dubai Shopping Festival.

The guarantee of glorious sunshine is another of Dubai's key enticements and the conditions make it a popular holiday destination for golf enthusiasts, beach lovers and watersports aficionados alike.
