2008 News Archive - Holidays - Dubai gets sporty

22 10 2007

Fans still smarting from England's World Cup final defeat to South Africa will be able to get back onto the international rugby rollercoaster with a trip to Dubai at the end of November.

The city stages the opening round of the IRB World Sevens 2007/08 series from November 30th to December 1st and many of the rising stars of the rugby world will be on show.

Unlike the 15 a side game, New Zealand are the reigning world champions, but they are sure to face strong competition from Fiji and Samoa as they look to start the new campaign with a victory.

Sports fans planning to take in some of Dubai's year-round sunshine by taking a family holiday in one of the city's many sumptuous hotels, may also want to note that it hosts several other international events.

From January 31st to February 3rd 2008 the Emirates Golf Club will stage the Dubai Desert Classic, while the Dubai Tennis Championships take place between February 25th and March 8th 2008. Both events attract some of the world's biggest sports stars.
