2008 News Archive - Holidays - Dubrovnik gears up for cultural celebration

03 07 2007

Croatia's biggest cultural event is set to kick off for the 58th time on July 10th.

The Dubrovnik Summer Festival brings an array of events to the Croatian city, with 70 open-air venues the setting for 47 days of celebration.

The opening gala ceremony will feature performances by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Libertas Choir, Dubrovnik Musketeers, the Lindo folk ensemble and ballet dancing by the Luka Sorkocevic art school.

And until August 25th, cultural types can gorge on theatre, music and dance, with five special midnight performances also on offer for night owls.

Last year's festival drew more than 2,000 artists from 20 countries.

Summer is of course a wonderful time to visit Croatia, particularly for a beach holiday.

The country offers picturesque beaches, crystal clear waters, hot weather and Mediterranean lifestyle at its best.

There are also six World Heritage Sites in the country, including Dubrovnik's Old City.
